The CMOs that don't get fired

Why do CMOs get fired more often than any other C-level executive? Perhaps it’s because we unwittingly stroll through the corporate halls with a neon sign that reads “please, feel free to fire me!” strapped to our backs?

The list of the specific reasons is as long as the Nile. My goal isn’t to go down that rabbit hole.

But marketing leaders that survive are those that push their north-star metric down-funnel and align it with sales / business metrics. They have reframed their role away from mere marketing to being revenue leaders. And let me tell you; I am working hard at making that transition myself.
